Bio:         JDale McMillen, PMP

A member of PMI since 1997, Mr. McMillen thoroughly enjoys the multi-disciplinary requirements of project management.  His many hats include being a process-weenie, a management-nerd, a computer-smart guy, a budget-beanie, a coaching-motivator, a project-planner, a crisis-responder, a business-analyzer, a task-master, a proposal-writer, a customer-delighter, and an all around nice guy (most of the time).  About 30 years ago, he studied music, philosophy, history and religion and figured he try a career in religion.  When he discovered that an interest in BIG IDEAS didn’t necessarily translate into being a religious professional, he took enough graduate courses at night school to launch a career in computers and finance.  After about 10 years down that path, he solidly landed into a career in project management.  He has taught PMP exam prep classes at his work and is a charter member of the Montgomery County PMI Toastmasters Club.  He began his professional career at UNISYS, and for the last 20 years has worked or has contracted for NASD/FINRA (first as a contractor, then 9 years as an employee, then 9 years as an EDS contractor and now as an HP contractor).

Topic:     PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

It seems that every where we go, some organization or other has a Code of Ethics.  More times than not, they seem about as exciting as watching paint dry.  Of course, ethical codes have been around since about the beginning of civilization, but in the past 30 years there has been an explosion of these codes.  Unfortunately, true to the principal of supply and demand, the greater the supply of these codes, the less meaningful they become.  So, when I got the notice from PMI about a year ago that there was an updated PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct my expectations weren’t very high.  But, boy was I surprised!  This wasn’t just any boring old Code of Ethics.  It was full of meaning and vitality!  It increased my passion for the profession of project management and made me proud to be a member of PMI!

The presentation will: 1)  Explore the meaning of the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, 2)  Examine the history of various Codes of Conduct, 3) Compare the PMI Code with other Codes, and 4)  Arouse your passion for project management!

This dinner meeting presentation will be worth one (1) "category 3" PDU.

The cost for dinner is $30 for PMI Montgomery County, MD Chapter members and $40 for all others.  Payment by cash or check is expected at the door of the meeting (unless prepaid during registration).

Reservations are required.  Please RSVP no later than 5:00 PM Sunday, October 4, 2009.

Note: We will reserve two "job tables" for those people who are looking for another opportunity (new job) and for those people who have openings at their work place for project managers and are seeking to recruit.  These tables will have signs labeled "Job Table".  Please sit at these special tables only if you are seeking a job or seeking to hire people for a job that you have.  Please feel free to bring copies of resumes or job postings to share with others at the Job Tables. We will continue to use the "two dot" system to indentify attendees who are looking for new opportunities (green dots) and those seeking to hire PMs (orange dots). We also will allow the "orange dot" attendees to briefly describe their open positions during the announcements just prior to the feature presentation.

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any others who you think may be interested in attending.
